Bombay Bicycle Club is a group of four Brits that make infectious and melodic Indie rock. While they've been on the scene for a few years in England, they have yet to make a name for themselves in the US. On August 29th, the group releases its third studio album, A Different Kind of Fix, through Island Records. The fantastic first single, “Shuffle” has already leaked and it is making waves across the Internet. Below you can check out the original or three remixes, as well as the music video. If you could turn down the tempo of Two Door Cinema Club and add a few more members to Villagers, then you've got something like Bombay Bicycle Club. Their sound is well-refined and their lyrics are quite beautiful.

Louisiana indie-rockers, Givers, made a name for themselves at SXSW this year and they just released their debut album, In Light. Their first single, "Up Up Up" is a fun and catchy summer song, and the visuals for the song are definitely worth watching. Also, check out Yacht's double feature video for Utopia & Dystopia (The Earth is On Fire), which really reminds me of something MGMT would put together. Finally, there's a new M83 album in the works and the teaser makes it look epic!

At first glance, these Los Angeles rockers make me feel like we're back in the big band times of the Swing Era. Fitz and the Tantrums create instantly memorable music, with big choruses and a retro feel, but they also bring plenty of hints of modernity. A few new names are bringing a unique twist to traditional hip hop and my bet is that this trend is here to stay. After blowing up at SXSW and continuing to turn heads with tons of fashion coverage, Theophilus London is preparing to release his first album, Timez Are Weird These Days, on July 19th. I featured him last year around this time for his mixtape and now stream his first single below.

Drake and Pitchfork rave about Toronto artist The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) and you should download his debut album, House of Balloons, to see what the hype is all about.

SXSW 2011 Recap #1: The Strokes, Friendly Fires, Smith Westerns

The Strokes released Angles today and you can stream the entire album on their web site! Over 30,000 people attended their free show at SXSW, and that was just a part of the craziness that took place in Austin throughout the week.

UK group Friendly Fires stole the show on every stage they played. The energy of lead singer Ed Macfarlane combined with the fine-tuned mechanics of the instrumentalists to keep the crowds' feet moving and ears pleased. The band will release their second album, Pala, on May 16 through XL Records. They will perform their first single, "Live Those Days Tonight", on Jimmy Fallon tomorrow! You can hear the song on their web site and also enjoy one of my favorite cuts off their first album.

"Kiss of Life" - Friendly Fires

Teenagers from Chicago, Smith Westerns, earned a great lineup of shows and shared the stage with everyone from TV on the Radio to Odd Future. They make music about being in love as a kid, which generates a flowing rock sound with energy and a low fi timelessness at the same time. The Strokes will return to SXSW on Thursday, March 17th to play the Auditorium Shores Stage (at Lady Bird Lake). The show will be free and open to the public, courtesy of the fine folks at Levi’s, who will also provide footage of the show online one day after their performance. The New York five-piece rock-band return with their highly anticipated fourth album, Angles, to be released March 22nd via RCA in the US, and March 21st via Rough Trade in the UK. My mind is swirling with ideas and music. This is a three part post covering different perspectives on music as we know and consume it. First, as people reflect on this year's outpouring of good music I have seen way too many mediocre recaps and top pick lists. My go to source for quality content has always been NPR, and to no surprise, the NPR readers selected a fantastic (1) "Best of 2010", which includes Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Janelle Monae, Kanye West, Beach House, and Mumford & Sons just to name a few! I'll be re-listening to each of these albums over the Holiday break and you may to catch up as well! Music is released faster than ever and our short attention spans don't give the great content the time of day... which brings me to the next topic...

Owen Husney, artist manager and omniscient music executive, speaks about the nature of the music industry and lack of nurture from major labels. After a long hiatus I've decided to throw all rules and equations for posting aside. From now on there will be pure musical flow without rhyme or reason.

To start, here are two artists that create real music, which is something I cannot easily find every day. Chief sound similar to Fleet Foxes, a personal favorite, and Adele falls somewhere between Florence + the Machine and Norah Jones. Soulful vocals mix with beats so catchy that you will not notice your leg bouncing along. Chief and Adele make distinct music that sounds nothing alike each other, but the vocals from both artists emanate such power that I cannot help to feel captivated.

Ben Folds released a collection of 11 songs based on the words and stories of author Nirk Hornby in his new project called Lonely Avenue. Next week Guster releases their new album, Easy Wonderful, and happen to be playing The Pageant on October 9! This music characterizes the start of high school for me (and probably you!) and I'll forever be a fan of both. Ben Folds always releases smart and sarcastic music that makes me laugh while you can't help but to feel better when listening to Guster. Both videos show those exact two sides of the artists with a blissful stop motion creation for "Do You Love Me" and a dark but clever video for "From Above". Top Ten of 2010: Local Natives

Seattle natives Fleet Foxes harmonized about the lush, carpeted forests of the Northwest in their self-titled debut. Local Natives picked up on the harmonies where Fleet Foxes left off, but exchanged the forests for images of Californian coast and sun. One of the best cuts on Local Natives' debut release, Gorilla Manor, has been given an ambient electronic beat courtesy of mix masters Teen Daze.

While the Teen Daze remix adds depth to Local Natives' sound, the band remains best au naturel. If you don't believe me, watch their acoustic cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Celcilia". If you love TV On The Radio as much as I do, then get ready for Dave Sitek's side project, Maximum Balloon. Sitek produced Dear Science, TVOTR's critically acclaimed 2009 album. In addition to production, he recorded guitars, bass, synths, and horn arrangements. All of those elements come together in Maximum Balloon's self-titled debut--plus Sitek grabs some great guest vocals from Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to TVOTR's own Kyp Malone to Theophilus London taking over the single, "Groove Me". Behold the album art for Weezer's new album, Hurley, which is due out September 14. Frontman Rivers Cuomo explains, "We didn't want to do a fourth self-titled record and we knew people would refer to it as 'the Hurley record' even if we left it without that title, so we just called it 'Hurley.' No words are on the cover because all we wanted was his amazing face." Totally makes sense, right? Normally a wordless cover would be unheard of, but this picture screams 1000 words and more. It's odd yet memorable, random yet recognizable, and has the blogosphere talking about Weezer, which is definitely the goal they were going for. With this edition of Rapid Eye Movement, the question now becomes: If every picture is worth 1000 words, then what ratio accurately fits a motion picture? I've watched each of these multiple times and am still amazed at how well each visual accompanies the song. Enjoy and repeat.

Back after a bit of redesign and rest! Part of that rest is only from writing but not from music as I've kept busy interning for Warner Music Group. During my first two weeks I had the privilege to work with this band, One EskimO, fresh off their tour with Michael Franti and Spearhead. Playing their first headlining show at the Blueberry Hill Duck Room, these four London born boys mesmerized the crowd just as Chuck Berry does every month. The pitch perfect vocals of front-man Kristian Leontiou mesh incredibly well with the mix of ambient electronic rock that makes up most of One EskimO's debut self-titled album. You cannot listen to it without feeling better. If you want to argue, put the album in your pipe and smoke it.

Satellite radio adopted their single, "Kandi", into rotation and it should definitely be the first song you hear! The video for "Kandi" makes up a part of One EskimO's complete visual album, called "The Adventures of One Eskimo" (The prequel to The Adventures of Bobby Ray). Kristian drew a few sketches, which animators then transformed into a movie available on the deluxe edition. The second song, titled "Amazing", is well... just that.

Beginning with the Bruce Willis car chase in "Stylo", we are reintroduced to Murdoc, 2D, and (cyborg) Noodle. The final shot shows the Stylo underwater as it morphs into a whale-shaped submarine, but no sign of the plastic beach. A playlist on the Gorillaz Youtube channel has hinted at the different explanations of "How Gorillaz Got to Plastic Beach", but now (real) Noodle's story has been added with the new video for "Melancholy Hill". A lot of familiar faces (and jellyfish) start emerging around 2:00, which leads me to expect a lot more from Gorillaz as the new storyline begins to take shape. While we wait for the next visual, definitely check out the Mighty Mouse remix of "Superfast Jellyfish" (discovered by Aaron).

Two Takes on the World Cup

You have probably seen Nike's "Write The Future" commercial, and possibly Addidas' Cup counterpart "Star War's Catina". Aside from a really well done remake of the movie scene, the commercial is a pop culture test over the past ten years. I would never predict the same scene with Daft Punk, Beckham, Snopp, and Harrison all together, and we will probably never will see something like this again. Update: Apparently Adidas thinks it is winning the branding war, and the sales numbers point that way, too.

The actual World Cup is not so bad itself, although it could use less nil-nil draws, less blown calls by Coulibaly, and less acting. Where is the soccer? On a better note, the World Cup had one hell of an opening ceremony. Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, Alicia Keys, BLK JKS, Amadou and Mariam, and my favorite Somalian, K'naan. Then R. Kelly did his thing with "Sign of a Victory", and like good old times with Rob. we all thought we could fly. Update: YouTube created a "Songs of the World Cup" playlist, starting with the new video for "Sign of a Victory".

Finally, did anyone else notice that Kobe won the title again this year? The league and apparently NIke want you to believe that it was all Kobe Bryant, and just Kobe Bryant. No Fisher--who also got his 5th ring--or even Gasol--who could have earned MVP, too. Anyway, I guess the only thing left to do is keep shouting "Kobe" when appropriate. "All Together Now"

The Killers front man, Brandon Flowers, announced the upcoming release of his solo album titled Flamingo. Not much is known about the project other than that Jenny Lewis appears on song titled, "Hard Enough". Also the following audio clip has appeared on his site, which features a catchy beat and brief sounds by a mysterious high voice.

Flowers undoubtedly has the talent to venture on his own, and I'm expecting something like Julian Casablancas' Phrazes for the Young. Like Casablancas, Flowers' distinct and powerful vocals set him apart from many others. Thankfully The Killers are not planning a definite hiatus, but there is no indication of how long Flowers will fly solo. While Flamingo should more than suffice for now, here are some other vocal standouts to pass the time.

Veteran producer Mark Ronson can tackle any genre you throw at him and give any song a makeover with a blissful dance beat. On his last album, Verison, Ronson created a brass-infused covers album that showed off his multi-instrumentalist skills as well as his connections throughout the industry. For instance, Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, Santigold, Phantom Planet, Wale, and Robbie Williams all lent their vocals for a medley of covers that ranged from Radiohead to The Smiths to Britney Spears.

On his new project, Record Collector, the horns are gone but the beats still make you want to break down into uncontrollable dancing. Also, the lineup of features is just as strong, with Santigold, MNDR, Q-Tip, Spank Rock, Boy George, and Miike Snow all slated to appear. In fact, the first single, "Bang Bang Bang", includes MNDR and Q-Tip. Along with the first single, a video called "Circuit Breaker" emerged as a teaser for the album. Inspired by Legend Of Zelda, the video below is a must watch. Look out for a September release of Record Collection, and check this out if the "Circuit Breaker" video makes you nostalgic for old video games. Asher Roth Still Alive and Kickin'

After the hype that surrounded "I Love College" started to fade, Asher Roth also lost the limelight. Mike Posner and Sammy Adams stepped in to fill the void, but it looks like Roth is back and ready to reclaim his title as whitest rapper alive. With the relaunch of his website and blog, and a new mixtape titled Seared Foie Gras W/ Quince & Cranberry, it is hard not to respect the kid's continued ambition. Down below is the video for "Muddy Swim Trunks", which is on the mixtape along with features from B.o.B, Talib Kweli, and Pac Div. Directed by the talented bunch over at BBGun, the video is a one-shot masterpiece. Artists usually tour the various late night talk shows during release week to promote their first singles off the albums. May 18th marked the street date for the first group of highly anticipated summer releases, including albums from Janelle Monáe, Band of Horses, The Black Keys, LCD Soundsystem, and Reflection Eternal. Check out the highlight of the week, Janelle Monáe, and another gem of a performance from folk group Mumford and Sons.

Janelle Monáe on Letterman performing "Tightrope", the first single off of her newly released The ArchAndroid. Now this is one damn good way to make a first impression and debut on network television. With that energy and swagger, I'll have whatever she's having.

After a successful collaboration experiment in hip-hop with Blakroc, The Black Keys are back to what they do best: blues fused with rock and roll. Their eighth studio release, Brothers, is streaming on NPR until the May 18th release. Remarkably consistent and accessible, this album is destined to keep fans satisfied as well as turn more people on to their sound. Auerbach and Carnery produce all tracks, except for the first single, "Tighten Up", which Danger Mouse got his hands on. Get to Know: Delorean

A dose of pop electronica meets chill wave meets dance grooves, which should also mean they're perfect for fans of MGMT, Chromeo, and Yeasayer.

Delorean consists of four Barcelona natives who began with a sound that fused house and their Spanish roots. Now the synth has stayed and they've adopted more of a pop sound...a "feel good" sound if there is such. Their roots remain though on their latest release, as the title Subiza comes from the town by the same name in Spain where they recorded the album. Pitchfork gave Subiza an 8.4, but numbers can only explain so much. A group of talented film makers called Yours Truly did an amazing piece on the group and their song "Grow". Like Phoenix front man Thomas Mars, you can tell that English is the second language for Delorean's vocalist Ekhi, but nothing in Delorean's songs is lost in translation. Get ready to officially welcome in summer with the video below for "Stay Close" and give "Warmer Places" a listen.

Apple may be in the headlines because of the iPad, but don't think for a second that they are taking a break while sales surge. In fact, they're making major moves. Today the streaming music service Lala, which Apple purchased last December, sent notice to all members that the service would shut down at the end of May. Why would Apple buy a promising start-up only to distance itself from the company and shut it down months later? Odds are that Apple ripped out the back end operating system and database from Lala to pursue its own streaming or cloud-based service. MP3tunes CEO Michael Robertson says,

"The Lala setup process provides software to store a personal music library online and then play it from any web browser alongside web songs they vend. This technology plus the engineering and management team is the true value of Lala to Apple."

Girls I Do Adore (Part 2)

Over the last few years, Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse have revitalized the position of female vocalist in the UK pop scene. Allen added electronic elements to her latest release and Winehouse brought the soul. While I love these girls, they love their alcohol more and that may have led to Allen taking a two year absence from touring or Winehouse checking in to rehab. While The Sunday Times believes their temporary departures mark the end of the line for female stars, a few newcomers are tearing up the UK charts. Compliments of Neon Gold, Ellie Goulding's Lights knocked Gaga off the top spot. Pitchfork described Lights as "remarkably uncontrived, cantering across genres, following personal whims and visions rather than marketing agendas." Ear pleasers include "Under the Sheets" (Dope remix) and "Starry Eyed" (Dope remix).

The beautifully intriguing Marina Diamandis heads the appropriately named Marina and The Diamonds, who just released their debut album, The Family Jewels, through Atlantic (Neon Gold released her ep). Marina stars in the video below for the album standout "Mowgli's Road" (Dope remix). Ear pleaser #2: "I am Not a Robot" and an equally great remix from Los Angeles afro pop group Fool's Gold.

Shingai Shoniwa of The Noisettes and Victoria Hesketh, also known as Little Boots, are bringing back class to the point where Hepburn would be proud. While Ke$ha and Gaga resort to stunts to make themselves marketable, these girls are the real deal as well as easy on the eyes. Shingai grew up London as an aspiring actress and her talents really show in her performance of "Never Forget You". Two Takes on The Pursuit of Happiness

When OK Go came out with a second video for This "Too Shall Pass" minds were probably blown... almost 8 million views in two weeks. However the original video shows an equally intricate and surprising take on the song. Well by now most of us have seen one of the videos for "The Pursuit Of Happiness" from Kid Cudi featuring MGMT and Ratatat. Making dreams come true one popped bottle and pill at a time. Drake decided that this type of atmosphere also fit the look he was going for and hopped in on the action (below).

In an alternate universe, Cudi finds himself on a couch and he can't get up. Looks like the party is in his mind this time. However, it is a much better party because Ratatat was invited. Eventually Cudi arrives at a masquerade through a cloud of smoke, and returns back to the tiring, endless party that is his world. Most copies of this video have been taken down, and it seems like Cudi is trying to control or prevent its release similar to the video for the Crookers remix of "Day 'N' Nite" that came out before the official video.

Bang! Bang! Introducing 3 Hip Hop Duos

Last year in hip hop marked the rise of the solo artist, as seen by the emergence of Kid Cudi, Wale, B.o.B., Drake, and J. Cole. This year seems like the time for duos to take the stage, and these three tandems will surely make their names known. Remix and sampling masterminds Chiddy Bang come from Philly and have gained recognition reworking artists like MGMT (see "Opposite of Adults" video below) and Sufjan Stevens into bouncing, hip hop tracks. Check out their free mix tape The Swell Express or the mix tape of producer Xaphoon Jones, Xaphoon Jones Mixtape Vol. 1.

Next come The Knux, brothers originally from of Louisiana, who combine the flow of The Cool Kids with the dance-friendly beats of Outkast. With songs featured in Harold & Kumar, Entourage, and Daddy's Girls, it is just a matter of time before The Knux break through. The video for "Bang! Bang!", the first single off of their debut album Remind Me in 3 Days, is worth a watch below, but definitely check out "Floozy", off of their latest EP.

Finally, today marked the release of the latest LP from Kidz In the Hall, Land of Make Believe, and success surely lurks around the corner with tracks like "Take Over the World". Similar to Chiddy Bang, Kidz In the Hall is made up of an extremely talented lyricist (Naledge) and producer (Double O) combo. The two joined their Ivy League skills at Penn and it's clear that they have put a lot of effort into their latest project. OK Go Watch This!

Less than a week after being added to YouTube, the second video for OK Go's "This Too Shall Pass" earned nearly six million views and already became the #1 Top Rated Music Video (of all time). For the January release of their latest album, Of The Blue Colour Of The Sky, the guys also released another video for the same song, which features an amazing single-shot parody of a typical marching band performance. These creative, entrancing videos should come as no surprise considering that OK Go first found the spotlight with the famous treadmill video for "Here It Goes Again". Check out the Rube Goldberg video below and how it was made at Wired.

Frontman Damian Kulash is making sure OK Go's streak of viral video bliss continues, taking such drastic steps as attacking his label, EMI, in a New York Times op ed and teaming up with State Farm to co-produce the previous video. Bringing power back to the artist and bringing brand partners into the picture--daring and innovate moves that may create new revenue streams... and there has not even been a mention of their music yet! Update: Stylo video just hit Youtube and it stars the usual characters (see 3:55)... plus Bruce Willis. Without giving away any of the details, the end of the video sets up an interesting transition to the familiar teaser videos currently populating the Gorillaz Youtube channel.

New additions to the exclusive first listen section include two highly anticipated albums that became available today for full stream. The Gorillaz are back with Plastic Beach, and continue to combine their original, intricate, and grooving beats with a showcase of talent including Snoop Dogg, Bobby Womack, Lou Reed, Mos Def, and many more. Nowadays we usually experience music in far from natural settings. We trust the screens and headphones of our computers and iPods to bring a MP3 or music video to life. On the other end of the spectrum, artists record these songs and videos in bits and pieces, where a good artist will labor meticulously over each part until perfected. In certain cases, artists will apply effects that warp a voice or instrument beyond its natural capabilities.

However, sometimes we are lucky enough to meet these same artists face to face at a concert--where all the rules change. We see the raw and real, and there is something to be said about artists that can get the job done in both the studio and on stage.

Black Cab Sessions have been mentioned before, others to check out include From the Basement (Recommendation: Fleet Foxes), Amsterdam Acoustics (Recommendation: Passion Pit), BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on Youtube (Recommendation: Local Natives & The Noisettes cover The Killers), and the "shows" section of Pitchfork TV, which is where you can find this version of Passion Pit's The Reeling.

Finally, a surprising addition to the list of sites offering interesting recordings comes from the Nick Jr. show Yo Gabba Gabba, which has developed quite a repertoire of guest stars performing original songs. Guests include The Ting Tings, Of Montreal, Chromeo, The Shins, The Roots, and MGMT, whose original video is below and the inspiration for the title of this post.

Pitchfork made it too easy to get hooked on Beach House and their new album, Teen Dream, which just earned a 9.0 rating and the rightfully deserved credit for a duo that has been making great music for years before their latest release. The album in full is worth a listen, but make sure to catch out the session they recorded for Pitchfork in their super furry practice room--which is currently battling the On to the Next One and VCR videos for best simple yet artistic award.

Why can't artists just find one band and stick to it? Jack White (White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather), I'm not only talking to you but also to your friends Thom Yorke (Radiohead, ????), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures), James Mercer (The Shins, Broken Bells), and Julian Casablancas (The Strokes). The last two, Mercer and Casablancas, just released music videos for new songs. Mercer teamed with Danger Mouse to create Broken Bells, and the video of their first single, "The High Road," is below.

Julian Casablancas took the solo route and released Phrazes for the Young, which sounds like The Strokes but imagine adding a synth and isolating Casablancas' vocals. The video for the single, "11th Dimension", can be seen below.

Where in the World is Lupe Fiasco

Lupe last made headlines when he released his Enemy of the State mixtape on Thanksgiving, but recently announced that the promised Friend of the People mixtape would not be ready for a Christmas release...for good reasons. Instead of slacking off and taking a deserved break, Lupe has been working harder than ever to prepare for a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro with Santigold, Jessical Biel, and various political, social, and environmental activists. Ethiopian artist Kenna organized the trip as a way to raise awareness about the scarcity of clean drinking water, and I love that Lupe jumped on board. He's one of the few out there who would drop everything and sacrifice his time for such a cause. You can hear more about it on the official site or through a feature Carson Daly did on his show.

If that was not enough, Lupe found time to lend his voice and verse to the new Nike Basketball holiday commercials. Check him out as the witty, trash-talking Blitzen opposite of KRS-One, who plays Santa.

Ever since Big Boi and Andre 3000 stopped making music together, there has been a void in my music collection between hip hop and pop... nothing seemed to fit. However, B.o.B. has made his presence known and songs of his like "I'll Be in the Sky" really make you wonder if he's the next Andre 3000. Now it is time for up-and-comer Janelle Monáe to take the stage for her Outkast inspired single, "Many Moons", which you can watch below.

With all the corporate sponsors out there, it is interesting to see how differently Mountain Dew approaches music, even compared to partner Pepsi. Mountain Dew started Green Label Sound to give up and coming artists distribution and publicity for their music, and the site features a ton of free downloads. Artists include The Cool Kids, Matt and Kim, Theophilus London, Chromeo + more. They also have Chromeo's latest music video for "Night by Night", which is included below and worth a post by itself. Whoever says that there are too many bands that sound the same has definitely never heard of these guys. This 11-person folk rock ensemble just released the debut LP, Up From Below, are featured on Rolling Stone's 2009 Artists to Watch, and have started on SALVO!, a 12-part music video series. Alex Ebert, formerly of Ima Robot, fronts the band with his girl Jade Castrinos. After seeing their two voices take over a room during a live performance I think it is time to start the bandwagon. B.o.B. aka Bobby Ray has been a workaholic lately in pursuit of promoting and finishing his debut album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray. Here's the video for first single off the album, "Nothin' on You", as well as a promo he did for ESPN with another song off the album called "I am the Champion". If either song is any indication for the rest of the debut, then we're in for a treat, and I can see B.o.B. earning recognition along with other members of the '09 class like Cudi, Wale, and Drake. If you're a recognizable artist cruising the streets of London, chances are that there may be a video crew waiting with the next cab you hail. Exhibit 1: Lykke Li performing "I'm Good I'm Gone". The second video features a cover of Fleet Foxes' "White Winter Hymnal" and we hear more emphasis on the vocals although they integrate an electronic touch into the song while maintaining its original harmonies
